Emergency Preparedness Classes for People with Disabilities & Special Needs

Jefferson County, September 1, 2010 - Disaster preparedness is a concern that transcends all political and partisan positions. People with disabilities represent 19.3 percent of the 257.2 million people ages 5 and older, or nearly one person in five, according to the U.S. Census of 2000.  Yet only 39 percent of people surveyed had an emergency plan in place for evacuating their home in the event of an emergency, one survey found.

Back to School Immunizations

Jefferson County, August 30, 2010 - Marine Biotoxin (PSP) levels have been found at lower concentrations and have dropped below the closure threshold in several Jefferson County beaches.

Pregnant? No matter how far along you are, it’s never too late to quit smoking.

Port Townsend, July 23, 2010 - Many mothers in Jefferson county struggle with trying to quit smoking. In fact about 24% of pregnant women in Jefferson County smoke during pregnancy, compared to 10% in WA State.

Jefferson County, July 23, 2010 -The week of August 1-7, 2010 marks the annual global celebration of breastfeeding. World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated in numerous communities across the nation and Washington State to draw attention to this Public Health priority.

Sewage Spill in Port Ludlow Bay

Jefferson County, July 20, 2010 - Olympic Water and Sewer reported an estimated 5,000 gallon sewage spill from their facility in Port Ludlow Bay on Tuesday, July 20th.  The system was repaired on the same day.  As a result of the spill, Jefferson County Public Health has issued a “No contact” Health Advisory for all of Port Ludlow Bay until Friday morning, July 23rd.

Cogeneration project prompts comment period for Port Townsend Paper

OLYMPIA, July 16, 2010 – The public is invited to comment on a state-issued order that would allow Port Townsend Paper Corp. (PTPC) to produce “green” electricity at its plant in Port Townsend. The Washington Department of Ecology will accept public comments from July 16 to August 18, 2010 on what’s known as a “Notice of Construction.”

Port Townsend Bay added to shellfish closures in Jefferson County

Jefferson County, July 14, 2010 - Marine biotoxins that cause paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) have been detected at concentrations above the closure level in shellfish samples collected from beaches at Fort Flagler.   As a result, the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) has closed all beaches in Port Townsend Bay to the recreational harvest of shellfish.

Admiralty Inlet, Kilisut Harbor and Mystery Bay closed to recreational harvest of shellfish due to marine biotoxins
