Partisan Office Candidates:
Appear on the Primary Election ballot no matter how many candidates file for the same office. The top-2 candidates will be on the General Election ballot.
Non-Partisan Office Candidates (PUD & Judicial):
Appear on the Primary Election ballot only if 3 or more candidates file for the same office. Only voters in District 3 may vote in the Primary Election. The top-2 candidates will be on the General Election ballot. Voters in the entire district vote at the General Election to elect the commissioner.
Precinct Committee Office (PCO) Candidates:
For this office only: In order to vote for precinct committee officer, a partisan office, you must affirm that you are a Democrat or a Republican and may vote only for one candidate from the party you select. Your vote for a candidate affirms your affiliation with the same party as the candidate. This preference is private and will not be matched to your name or shared.
Precinct Committee Officers (PCO’s) are elected in the Primary election. Only contested PCO races for each party, if applicable, will appear on the Primary ballot and the candidate with the most votes for each party, if applicable, is elected.
Canvass Board Manual
Many people assume the election results they see on election night are the final results, when, in fact, the outcome is not official until the election is canvassed and certified several weeks after Election Day.
The purpose of canvassing is to account for every ballot cast and ensure that every valid vote is included in the election totals. Click on the links below to learn more.
