This project took place on Center Road in Quilcene from MP 14.61 to MP 15.01. Work began June 15, 2020 and was completed late July 2020.
Project work included removal and replacement of most of the bituminous pavement (some of the asphalt exceeded 12” thick) on Center Road between the Little Quilcene River bridge and US 101. This section of road was reconstructed from its gravel base, and now has new 5” thick asphalt paving on the roadway and shoulders.

The 40-year-old asphalt sidewalk on the west side of Center Road between East Columbia Street and US 101 was replaced with an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant sidewalk, including a curb ramp at Columbia Street. Crosswalks were installed at the intersection of Columbia St. and Center Road, and a hazard tree was removed at the same intersection.
Nordland Construction NW, Inc. was the prime contractor for this project. The restoration and resurfacing of this section of Center Road was 90% funded by a grant ($639,000) from the County Roads Administration Board (CRAB.) The sidewalk replacement was funded by $65,000 from Jefferson County’s Public Infrastructure Fund.
