Community Mask Criteria:

Per the Health Department, an effective community mask must:

  • Cover the nose and mouth
  • Be comfortable so the user doesn’t have to adjust it frequently (thus contaminating by hand)

There are many designs that can be made that meet the above criteria. Below is just one possible design.

Hospital Mask Criteria:

  • Cover the nose and mouth and have elastic ear loops or 4 ties
  • Have the three folds so as to expand over multiple face sizes
  • Have a pocket for a filter (do not sew in a filter)
  • Made of a tight cotton fabric - preshrunk
  • Have wire or a metal strip at the top to conform to the nose

There are many designs that can be made the meet the above criteria. Below is just one possible design.
