PROCLAMATION re_ Proclaiming May 6-12 2022 as Nurses Week_Page_1

On May 2, the Jefferson County Commissioners signed a proclamation to hereby proclaim May 6-12, 2022 as NURSES WEEK in Jefferson County and ask all residents of this community join us in honoring our HEALTHCARE HEROES, the registered nurses, and show our appreciation not just during this week, but at every opportunity throughout the year.

Specific Services

  • Breast and Cervical Health Program: Free women's health screening exams including mammogram for women age 40 to 65, who are financially eligible is offered.
  • Children and Youth With Special Healthcare Needs:  CYSHCN helps support families with resources and linkages to community services including family support, care coordination, and health information.
  • Communicable Disease: Consultation, investigation, and tracking of a communicable disease is provided. Tuberculosis (TB) screening and monitoring is offered with testing available on Tuesdays from 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Family Planning Clinic: Annual exams, birth control methods, pregnancy testing, emergency contraception, education, and referrals are available.
  • Foot Care Program: Services provided at senior centers for those age 60 and older who need foot-care; and for individuals of any age with diabetes or handicapping conditions.
  • Immunizations: Routine immunizations for children and adults is offered. Walk-in clinics are on Tuesday and Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. There are sliding scale fees. Services for children are not denied due to inability to pay. International travel vaccines are available by appointment only. Please call for an appointment 1 month before departure.
  • Public Health Nurse Services: Education and support for pregnant women and parenting families, childbirth education classes, newborn follow-up and home visitations, breastfeeding consultation, and support group are available.
  • Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic: Confidential diagnosis, treatment, preventive education, partner notification, and referrals are offered.
  • Substance Abuse Prevention: Education and coordination of alcohol and drug prevention programs for youth in the county are available.
  • Syringe Exchange Program: Anonymous and confidential walk-in services to exchange used syringes for new, safer injection supplies; health care referrals, HIV counseling and testing, and hepatitis screening is available.
  • Tobacco Prevention and Control: Community education and information on smoking cessation and prevention programs are provided.
  • Women, Infant and Children (WIC) Supplemental Food Program: Nutrition education and food vouchers for pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and children under 5 years of age who financially qualify are available.
