Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Background
Washington State law requires the annual adoption of a 6-year transportation improvement program (6-yr TIP) after a public hearing. The purpose of the law is to always have every county produce and adopt a 6-year capital plan for a coordinated multi-modal transportation program. The TIP is a comprehensive list of county transportation projects that Jefferson County Public Works anticipates undertaking in a consecutive six-year period. The list includes secured and anticipated funding sources for each project. The adopted 6-yr TIP is used for developing the annual construction program budget each year. Public Works provides information on federally-funded projects to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) for the purpose of developing the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). The regionally significant projects from the adopted 6-yr TIP are submitted to the Peninsula Regional Transportation Planning Organization (PRTPO) for inclusion to its Regional Transportation Improvement Program.
Projects are selected by a variety of methods, including evaluation of needs and potential solutions through analysis of road segments, crash data, active transportation, school zone proximity, bridge conditions, pavement conditions, aging culverts, fish passage, and financial constraints / opportunities.
2021 - 2026 TIP
On October 26, 2020, the Board of County Commissioners approved the 2021-2026 6-year TIP through Resolution 67-20.
