Port Ludlow – Olympic Water & Sewer, Inc. reported a bypass of sewage at their wastewater treatment facility located at 8481 Oak Bay Road that led to a sewage overflow into Port Ludlow Bay during the early morning hours of January 5th, 2021. At this time, it is estimated that 50,000-75,000 gallons of a mix of sewage and stormwater entered the bay. The flow of sewage has been diverted and repairs are being made. In the meantime, Jefferson County Public Health has issued a “No Contact” Health Advisory for the waters of Port Ludlow Bay. The public is advised to avoid contact with the water including swimming, boating, and fishing until further notice. Contact with fecal contaminated waters can result in gastroenteritis, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections, and other illnesses. Warning signs have been posted at public access points. This advisory does not include Mats Mats Bay.
